It is reported that the US House has voted to set a deadline for the troops to return home. The vote was 218 to 210. The president may veto it...well, it looks like it'll definitely be vetoed.
I really don't know what to think after I read the article in BBC. Apparently the Iraqi Foreign Minister doesn't want the troops to leave yet. He believes that the US withdrawal should happen after the Iraqi military is self-reliant. I mean, it kind of sucks for the US to create mass chaos and then leaving without cleaning up their mess. Well, it kind of sucks that chaos was created in the first place.
Anyways, I really don't have enough knowledge about the war to expound on it. All I know are friends who have family members in the military, and I know my friends wants their loved ones to be safe. I was just talking to one of these friends yesterday and I saw this article and thought of her and her family. (I'm praying for you.)

Hey Kiko,
I have been studying the Middle East extensively this year, and I, like you, am still torn about whether it's a good idea to pull out. I've read some convincing articles that argue for both sides. I'm more inclined to side with the people who say we should stick it out, for the very reasons you mention, but also because I think pulling out now is merely symptomatic of American impatience. At the same time, the fighting will never end unless we have a more effective strategy. So if Bush isn't willing to change from "staying the course" to seeking a more political solution, while using the best methods to root out insurgents (perhaps the new general needs to be given the chance to do it over the longterm?), then I think the Democrats are right to pass this bill. Either way, it will be a LONG time before the region is stable again. I think the fighting will continue for many years regardless. Although I pray that it won't and that your friends will stay safe. Anyway, sorry for the long comment. Hope you and Vincent are doing well!
